Japanese Restaurants: Melbourne and Surrounds | Eating Out Melbourne
By LadyLovelace
Japanese restaurants in Melbourne are some of the finest in the world - here's a list of my favourite Melbourne Japanese restaurants, with directions and prices included so you can pick one or more to enjoy, whether you're a local or just visiting for a while.
Burwood Teppanyaki House
There's all the fun and excitement of teppanyaki prepared by your chef at your table, along with traditional sushi, sashimi, tempura, and chef's specials in this recent addition to Melbourne's Japanese restaurant scene. If you want dinner and a show, choose the teppanyaki area for the authentic experience of a lifetime.
There are also private areas for group functions, a quieter dining room for more western-style eating, and an outside seating area to enjoy those gorgeous Melbourne evenings. Perfect for nights out with family and friends, and with an excellent bar, as well.
Enjoy eating out in Melbourne just outside the bustle of the city in Burwood, 15 minutes from the city centre by rail or tram.
Open seven days a week, lunch and dinner, Entrées from $6.80, Mains from $16.80
Iku Yakitori Japanese Restaurant
Enjoy delicious, authentic fare as a tasty snack with a drink or as dinner by combining the yakitori with other dishes on the extensive menu, including seafood, sushi, sashimi, ramen, rolls, dumplings and vegetarian options.
Iku Yakitori is ideal for casual dining with it's Izakaya style Japanese cuisine and easygoing atmosphere in busy Sydney Road.
Open from 6pm 'til late 7 days, and for lunch Monday-Friday
Individual dishes $5, Yakitori platter $35 (The platter would easily feed two or more people, so this is budget Japanese dining with friends at its casual best).
Nobu Japanese Restaurant
Also located at Crown, Nobu is the complementary twin to Koko. Overlooking the Yarra River, Nobu offers stunning views inside and out. As the world's most recognised Japanese restaurant, it is renowned for its innovative, new style cuisine and signature dishes featuring yellowtail sashimi with jalapeño and black cod with miso - true fusion cooking at it's best.
Nobu is designed for celebrations and making a big impression in business. It's open seven days a week for lunch and dinner. Entrées from $12, mains from $21.
Koko Japanese Restaurant
Located in Crown Towers, Koko combines traditional Japanese architecture, authentic cuisine and five star service. Diners can enjoy teppanyaki and à la carte cuisine or sit at the sake bar while overlooking stunning river and city views and the Japanese water garden.
Koko is ideal both for business meetings and special occasions or a treat when you're visiting Melbourne, being one of our premiere restaurants.
Open for lunch and dinner seven days. Entrées from $11.50, mains from $35.
Kobe Jones Japanese Restaurant
This modern and elegant restaurant serves exquisite food in superb surroundings with spectacular Melbourne city skyline and harbour views. Executive chef Vikram Kotomraju has used his extensive skills and experience to create a "Japanese Pan Asian" menu giving classic dishes a deliciously light, fresh and innovative Western twist.
Kobe Jones is perfectly suited to romantic dinners or casual lunches, open seven days a week for both lunch and dinner.
Entrées are available from $16, mains from $22.
Takumi Japanese Restaurant
This popular spot for Japanese fare specialises in 'smokeless' sumibi yakiniku (Japanese charcoal grill). It's a fun meal, as the meat, seafood and vegetables are cooked over a brazier at the table. The 10 to 13 course and à la carte menus offer signature dishes including tenderloin Wagyu beef carpaccio, salmon sashimi infused with carrot and onion sauce, and Japanese soba salad.
Casual and romantic meals are the specialty of this favourite Melbourne Japanese restaurant, which is open for dinner seven days a week, and lunch Monday to Friday. Entrées available from $12.80, mains from $24.80
